Rachel French had a great competition at the recent PCA NSW State Showjumping competition in Kendall with her horse Joelene on the 10th and 11th of July. With very wet and muddy conditions and some tough competition, Rachel and Joelene came away with some impressive results.

The first class on Saturday was an AM5 built around 1.05-1.10m. Going Clear in the first round put Rachel and Joelene into the jump off, but unfortunately one rail was knocked which pushed her into 8th place, a great achievement in a very strong field of around 30 Associates. The second class was also an AM5 but unfortunately a tap of one rail in the first round pushed Rachel just out of the placings into twelfth place.

Day two of the competition was one that separated the men from the boys with the first round of the Grand Prix being up around 1.20m. With a few falls, many refusals and a whole heap of rails, there were only 6 clears in the first round. It just wasn’t Rachel and Joelene’s day when they just tapped the last fence and it came down as they went over the finish line. All those who weren’t eliminated in the first round went into the second, and with 8 faults at the end, Rachel won 10th place.

Joelene certainly saved the best till last for the Power and Speed on Sunday afternoon.  A very technical course built at a 1.20m saw many horses and riders in the mud, with rails and refusals. Rachel and Joelene went clear through the power but took it slow through the speed part due to the muddy conditions. Taking it slow and steady in the speed part certainly paid off with only 5 clears in the class, putting Rachel and Joelene into 4th place.

Overall they placed = 8th in the Associates division. Well Done.
